The Reward of Truthfulness

The Reward of Truthfulness

Once upon a time, in a small village surrounded by green fields and colorful flowers, there lived a boy named Hamza. He was about ten years old, had sparkling brown eyes, and a smile that could light up anyone’s day. Hamza was known for one special thing: he always spoke the truth.

In Hamza’s village, telling the truth was a big deal. Everyone respected honest people, and Hamza’s parents had taught him from a very young age that no matter how difficult it was, he should always be truthful.

One sunny morning, Hamza woke up excited. It was the day of the Annual Village Fair. Every year, the villagers organized a big fair with games, food stalls, singing, and even small competitions. Hamza loved the fair because he could meet all his friends, play games, and eat delicious sweets.

A cheerful young boy with brown eyes and a bright smile, standing in a colorful village fair with balloons, flags, and food stalls around him — cartoon style, bright colors, happy mood.

Hamza quickly got ready and ran towards the fairground. He saw bright flags waving in the air, heard music playing, and smelled the yummy aroma of roasted corn and candy. It was magical!

While walking through the fair, Hamza noticed a colorful stall with a big sign that said:

“The King’s Golden Contest: Win a Bag of Gold Coins!”

Curious, Hamza went closer. An old man with a long white beard sat behind the stall. His eyes twinkled kindly as he said,
“Young boy, would you like to participate? It’s simple. Answer a question truthfully, and you could win a bag full of gold coins!”

Hamza’s heart raced with excitement. Gold coins! His family was not rich, and he knew they could use the money to buy warm clothes for winter and fix their broken roof.

“I would love to try!” Hamza said eagerly.

The old man smiled and asked,
“Tell me, have you ever done something wrong and not told anyone about it?”

Hamza thought for a moment. He remembered once when he had accidentally broken his mother’s favorite flower vase while playing inside the house. At that time, he was so scared that he had hidden the pieces without telling her.

Hamza’s face turned red. It would have been easy to lie and say, “No, I have never done anything wrong.” But deep inside, he knew that lying was wrong.

Taking a deep breath, Hamza said,
“Yes, once I broke my mother’s vase and didn’t tell her. I felt very bad afterward.”

The old man looked at Hamza kindly.
“You are brave for telling the truth,” he said. “Most children would have lied.”

Hamza waited nervously. Would he still get the prize?

The old man stood up and announced loudly,
“This boy has spoken the truth even when it was hard! He is the true winner of the King’s Golden Contest!”

Everyone around clapped and cheered. Hamza was handed a beautiful golden bag filled with shining coins.

Hamza’s eyes widened in wonder. He couldn’t believe it! Truthfulness had truly brought him a great reward.

But the story doesn’t end here.

As Hamza walked back home carrying the bag, he met an old woman sitting by the roadside. She looked tired and hungry. Hamza stopped and asked kindly,
“Grandmother, are you alright?”

The woman smiled weakly and said,
“I have not eaten since yesterday, dear boy.”

Hamza felt his heart ache. He thought about the gold coins he had won. Without a second thought, he took out some coins and handed them to her.

“Please buy yourself food and clothes,” he said warmly.

The woman’s eyes filled with tears of happiness. She blessed Hamza and said,
“May you always be rewarded for your kindness and honesty!”

When Hamza reached home and told his parents everything, they were overjoyed—not because of the gold coins, but because their son had chosen truth and kindness over fear and greed.

From that day onwards, Hamza became a hero in the village. People admired him not just for winning the contest, but for being a boy who lived with honesty, courage, and kindness.

He learned a lesson that stayed with him forever: Telling the truth might be difficult at times, but it always leads to the best rewards—rewards greater than gold.

The Moral of the Story:

  • Always speak the truth, even when it’s hard.
  • Honesty brings respect, love, and unexpected rewards.
  • Helping others in need brings true happiness.
